The Gran Quilters is a group of females who have been coming together since 1998 for patchwork and puilting classes under the tutelage of Margaret Brownlow.
The Women’s Group that had been formed in Swatragh undertook the responsibility of organising various classes and events.

Cashel Trout Fishery report
Egg flies and assorted buzzers seem to be catching most trout this weekend with a few mixed lures doing the trick also. Limavady’s Arnold Boreland landed fourteen great trout on egg flies and buzzers while Derry’s Aidy Askin banked a dozen on assorted wet patterns. Ciaran Mellon (Swatragh) had a great day releasing half a dozen trout one which weighed almost 14lb. Ciaran was using bloodworms and weighted buzzers. Newcomers, William and Philip Smyth (Belfast) and Kevin Burke (Claudy) had very enjoyable days at Cashel banking a dozen or so trout which took orange and yellow cat’s whiskers. Keith Casey, John Long, Robbie Lyttle and Bryan Mc Cluskey (Happy Anglers Club, Limavady) had a wee competition among themselves with Keith getting heaviest three trout weighing 8lb 8ozs. Shaun Duggan (Gulladuff) and John Hasson (Dungiven) had a quiet few hours using white fritz and a green fritz. They banked three trout in total and lost quite a few more.

DraperstownWork is nearing completion on the fantastic new Sports Hall, adjacent to St Colm’s High School. The sports hall will be used primarily by St Colm’s High School during the day, with facilities also being shared amongst the neighbouring primary schools of Altayeskey, Cullion, Draperstown, Knocknagin, Dromore, Kilross, Moneyneena and Straw.Members of the local community will also be able to make use of the facilities and activities on offer during evenings and weekends when trained staff will be available to provide coaching and development support. Badminton, Bowling, Boxing, GAA and soccer are just a small sample.Of course, the development project wouldn’t have gotten off the ground at all without the financial backing of several charitable organisations, as well as the support of local businesses and Workspace which seeks to stimulate social and economic regeneration in the area. The total development costs (including equipment) is £870,000. The breakdown of donations is as follows:£705,000 from The Big Lottery Fund £50,000 from several funding organisations, including The Drapers Company £70,000 from local businesses Now, if you’ve been doing your sums, you’ll realise that this leaves a shortfall of about £45,000 still to raise. With this in mind, the plan is to raise the remaining funds through the ‘Buy A Brick’ campaign. Each ‘brick’ costs £100 and they can be purchased directly or by standing order over a period of 4 years. Members of the local community are encouraged to show their support for what is hoped to become an important community resource - your purchase will be permanently acknowledged within the building. The school can be contacted directly on (0)28 79628377.

Jack McKernan from Greenlough club gave an oration at the end of the session and spoke of how it would be a dream of his to be in the same position as Paddy and Kevin in about 10 years time.
Of course some of the pupils let these two players know that the first Derry All-Ireland Camogie All-Star, Aisling Diamond was indeed a past pupil of their school and someone they were very proud of. Loup
75th Jubilee Celebrations
The year 2008 represents an historical landmark in the history of St. Patrick’s GAC, Loup.It will be 75 years since the club was formed to provide a successful social and sporting organisation for the small community on the shore of Lough Neagh. The club will be running a number of events throughout the year, which will cater for all ages, such as fun days, barbecues, dances, underage tournaments and poker nights.
To mark the 75th Jubilee the main event will be a corporate dinner to be held in the Tullyglass House Hotel on Saturday, November 1, 2008.
For entertainment on the night, current GAA president Mr Nicky Brennan will be our guest speaker, while former All-Ireland winner and RTE pundit Mr Joe Brolly will provide the ‘lighter’ entertainment.
As this is such an historic occasion in the club’s history the organising committee is running a savings scheme to help spread the cost of booking a seat.
More information on this and other events will be posted on the clubs website - www.loup.derry.gaa.ie
