Family’s big Christmas switch-on

A South Derry family has turned their home into a winter wonderland in a bid to raise vital cash for charity.

The Hamilton family from Ballyronan have transformed their home with a dazzling display of Christmas lights in an effort to raise money for Action Cancer.

And the man behind the spectacular show of twinkling lights, Brian Hamilton, is urging people to support the worthy cause.

“We started four years ago. I was putting up the lights and every year there was more and more going up and we decided that we would put a box out and people could give if they want. We thought we might as well do somebody a bit of good if we can. People come from all over the place to see the lights, Portadown, Carrickfergus and even Ballycastle.

“There are thousands of bulbs and each year the display gets bigger. We had six men here last Saturday helping to put them up. Everyone is welcome to come and see the display. People should pull into a yard beside the house rather than stop on the road. We even have directions from the road into the yard. We have a box in the yard if people want to make a donation to the charity.”

If you want to take in the spectacular display call you can find the Hamilton homestead at 34 Ballyneill Road, Ballyronan, which is the road from Ballyronan to The Loup.
