The heartbroken mother of a County Derry man whose organs have been used to save the lives of seven people has urged young people to follow her son’s example by becoming organ donors.
Clare McCusker made the emotional appeal eight weeks after her son Conor died following an incident outside Mint Cafe Bar in Cookstown.
Floor layer Conor had been enjoying a night out with his younger brother, Derry GAA star Niall McCusker, when an altercation occurred between him and another man outside Mint Bar Cafe in the early hours of Sunday, April 19.
Mr McCusker, who suffered serious head injuries, lost his fight for life the following day.
In the days after his death Conor’s organs were used to give life to seven people with a range of serious illnesses.
And this week the 31-year-old’s legacy continued when his grieving family donated £4,000 to Bellaghy priest Fr Frank Diamond who is a missionary in Tanzania.
The cash was raised in lieu of flowers in the weeks after Conor’s untimely death.
