School pupils urged to volunteer

A number of local schools have attended workshops aimed at promoting volunteering.
Pupils attending the event which was set up by Limavady Volunteer Centre were encouraged to take a new look at volunteering by developing their roles and thinking about more diverse ways in which schools could benefit from having a wide range of skilled people from various backgrounds.
Possible roles discussed ranged from essential skills, to art, music and drama through to sport.
A spokesperson from the volunteer centre said the contribution and discussion from those present was enlightening and the potential for community development between schools, individuals and other organisations was fascinating.
Former CEO of Special Olympics Ireland, Mary Davis gave students a motivational speech on how volunteering is such an enriching experience.
She was able to demonstrate how volunteers can successfully work together to achieve great things such as the Special Olympic Games.
A spokesperson for Limavady Volunteer Centre said: “Hopefully worthwhile partnerships can develop and grow from today with mutual benefit being felt by schools, individuals, the community and other groups.”
If schools would like further information on volunteering, they can contact Nadine Connor at the centre by calling 028 777 65438 or emailing accounts@limavadyvb.com
