Truckers driver ahead with fundraiser

February 15th, 2010

Big hearted truckers across the county are planning a massive fundraising event later this year.
And all cash raised will go towards the construction of a palliative care unit at Antrim Area Hospital.
The centre is set to be run by Macmillan Cancer Support and will help people who have contracted the disease.
Organised by the Mid-Ulster Truckers, the two day event will involve a truck show, convoy and family fun day.
Event organiser Brigid Donnelly says a host of extra activities has also been arranged including a car boot sale and a truck pull which will involve teams of eight people pulling a lorry.
The team with the fastest time will be awarded trophies sponsored by TBF Thompson.
There will also be a digger driving competition when people will have the chance to showcase their skills by balancing a tennis ball on top of a traffic cone.
And for the first time the fundraising event will crown a Miss Trucker Queen for the person who collects the most cash for the worthy cause.
In addition to the fun day there will also be a country music night and barbeque.
As usual the event will be hosted at Mid Ulster Auctions and Brigid Donnelly has urged everyone to get involved.
She said: “We will be hosting the event on Saturday, May 29 and Sunday, May 30. This will be the third year we are holding the event and hope to make it bigger and better than any year before now. The cause we have chosen to donate the money to is very worthy and most people have been touched by the disease at some time.
“Registration is now open and people should get in touch if they want to take part in the truck run or take part in the truck pull or digger competition.”
