Tributes to road crash victim

A South Derry community was plunged into mourning after the tragic death of a young woman in a weekend car crash.
Janet Marie Harney (27) died just yards from her home at Killybearn, between Drumullan and Cookstown, after and accident involving three cars on Friday night.
It is understood the car the dead woman was travelling in was stationary at the time of the accident.
Two other men who were at the scene were later treated in hospital for minor injuries.
The dead woman’s family is well known in GAA circles and her brother Martin is a regular senior player with Ballinderry Shamrocks.
The Harney family moved from Ballinderry to the Drumullan district many years ago and the victim’s father Hughie, a native of County Roscommon, is also a member of the Ogra Colmcille club.
Ogra Colmcille Club Chairman Martin Devlin spoke of the shock felt in the community.
He said: “It’s tragic circumstances for everybody all round. This is a small community and this is a massive shock as word filtered through on Saturday morning. From our own perspective we offer sympathy and condolences to the family.”
Ms Harney will be buried after Requiem Mass in Holy Trinity Church in Cookstown this morning.
She is survived by her parents Hughie and Bonnie, sisters Annette and Nichola, brother Stephen and Martin.
Mid Ulster assemblyman Patsy McGlone offered his sympathies to the dead woman’s family.
He said: “My sincerest sympathies lie with all those involved in this tragic incident. The entire family circle of all those involved will be in the thoughts and prayers of the whole community.”
