It is understood the emergency services responded when passengers complained of breathing in a substance after the bus broke down near the Ponderosa Bar around 2pm last Wednesday.
An Ambulance Service spokesman said that by the time it arrived at the scene passengers had already boarded another bus and continued on their journey.
A spokesman for Translink said: “We can confirm that the 1pm 212 Maiden City Flyer coach service to Belfast broke down due to a mechanical failure. The driver notified the depot at around 1.50pm and a replacement vehicle was dispatched in order to transport the passengers on their onward journey.
“Translink did not contact the emergency services and we are currently investigating the full facts of this situation.”
